Children & Young People’s Wellbeing Service

Supporting children and young people

Our Children and Young People’s Mental Health Practitioner (CYP MHP) provides wellbeing and mental health support for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health or emotional difficulties.

What happens after a referral?

The first appointment will be a telephone triage consultation. This allows the practitioner to speak with you, understand the child or young person’s needs, and discuss the most appropriate support.

What can the service help with?

The CYP MHP service can support children and young people experiencing:

  • Anxiety
  • Low mood
  • Mild depression
  • Mild to moderate emotional difficulties
  • Bereavement, including support and signposting
  • Body image concerns or mild disordered eating
  • Obsessional thoughts where OCD diagnostic criteria are not met
  • Sleep problems
  • Anger difficulties
  • Emotional regulation difficulties

ASD and ADHD

Children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or ADHD can also be referred where they are experiencing one or more of the mild to moderate mental health difficulties listed above.

When is this service not suitable?

Some children and young people may require more specialist support. Referrals should be directed to SET CAMHS where there are:

  • Urgent mental health concerns
  • Severe depression
  • Moderate to severe risk of harm to themselves or others
  • Moderate to severe eating disorders or a need for specialist eating disorder support
  • Substance misuse concerns

Interested in support?

If you feel your child or young person may benefit from this service, please speak to a member of your GP Practice team about a referral.
